At Car Service Canberra, we believe looking after cars is about more than servicing and repairs. It is about looking after the people who trust us with them.

Jake and Monique purchased N & D Auto Services in November 2018 and, over the past eight years, have gradually built the business into what is now widely known as Car Service Canberra. We still trade under both names, but today most of our customers know us as Car Service Canberra.

We are a small, family-owned and locally operated workshop in Mitchell, providing quality mechanical services to the wider Mitchell community, including Watson, Hackett, Dickson, Harrison, Franklin, Casey, Lyneham, Gungahlin, Palmerston, Nicholls, Belconnen and surrounding areas and one of the things we have enjoyed most over the years is getting to know our customers. Many have continued to come back to us for their servicing and repairs, while others have found us through recommendations from family, friends and other local motorists.

Your Local, Family-Owned Automotive Workshop

That repeat business and word of mouth means a lot to us. It reflects the trust our customers place in our team to provide honest advice, quality workmanship and practical recommendations for their vehicles.

Our approach is straightforward: listen to the customer, properly assess the vehicle and explain what needs attention and why. We work on a wide range of makes and models, including passenger cars, four-wheel drives, diesel vehicles and light commercial vehicles.

We have particular experience with Japanese and Korean vehicles, including Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, Suzuki, Isuzu, Hyundai and Kia, while also servicing many other makes and models.

As vehicles continue to change, so has our workshop. Car Service Canberra has experience servicing hybrid vehicles and is qualified and equipped to work on high-voltage vehicles, including plug-in electric vehicles, for appropriate servicing and repairs. This means existing customers can continue to use a workshop they know and trust when they change to a hybrid or EV.

We are also ARC authorised (AU53331) to carry out Automotive Air Conditioning work responsibly and in accordance with applicable requirements. Technicians have the skills and knowledge to correctly undertake service and repairs of refrigerated car air conditioning.

We aim to be a workshop our customers can rely on for their ongoing vehicle care, from routine servicing and log book servicing through to diagnostics, brakes, steering and suspension, tyres and more complex repairs.

We can also assist with pre-purchase vehicle inspections, including a Comprehensive Vehicle Condition Report, helping buyers understand the condition of a vehicle before making a purchase.

For customers moving between states or needing vehicle inspections and roadworthy certificates, our team can also assist with relevant NSW and ACT inspection and certification requirements, depending on the vehicle and circumstances.

As a Repco Authorised Service centre, Car Service Canberra is part of a nationwide network of independent automotive workshops. Eligible work is backed by a Nationwide Warranty, giving our customers additional peace of mind when their vehicle is serviced or repaired with us.

While the business has evolved since Jake and Monique took ownership in 2018, our focus remains the same: provide honest advice, take pride in our workmanship and treat customers with the respect we would expect ourselves.

We know that choosing a mechanic is about trust. You need to know that the person looking after your vehicle understands what they are doing, will explain things clearly and will tell you when something genuinely needs attention.

That is the kind of relationship we work hard to build with every customer who comes through our doors.

If you are looking for a local, family-owned workshop for car servicing, maintenance or repairs in Mitchell and the surrounding Canberra area, we would be happy to look after you and your vehicle.

Car Servicing and Mechanical Repairs in Mitchell

When the Australian summer heat arrives, your car’s air conditioning quickly becomes more than a comfort feature. A well-maintained A/C system helps keep the cabin cool, reduces humidity and can make long drives considerably more comfortable. But if the system isn't operating efficiently, it may also place unnecessary load on the engine.

At Car Service Canberra (AU53331), we provide professional car air conditioning servicing, inspections, regas and repairs for motorists in Mitchell and surrounding areas. Understanding a few of the key components can help you recognise when your A/C system needs attention.

Your vehicle's air conditioning system uses the engine to drive the A/C compressor. When the system is working correctly, the compressor cycles as required to maintain the desired cabin temperature.

However, low refrigerant levels, restricted airflow or a fault within the system can affect its efficiency. Refrigerant doesn't simply get "used up" in normal operation, so a noticeable reduction in cooling performance can sometimes indicate a leak or another underlying problem.

Rubber seals and connections are particularly important because they help contain the refrigerant within the system. As components age, seals can deteriorate and leaks may develop. Simply regassing a system without investigating why the refrigerant level has dropped may only provide a temporary solution.

A professional A/C inspection can help identify whether the system requires a regas, repair or further diagnosis.

How Does Your Car's Air Conditioning Affect Fuel Use?

RAS Auto Facts - Air Conditioning

The cabin air filter is another small component that can have a big effect on your air conditioning performance.

Its job is to filter air entering the vehicle's cabin, trapping particles such as dust, pollen and other airborne contaminants. Over time, the filter can become clogged, restricting airflow through the vents.

You may notice weaker airflow even when the fan is operating normally, or find that the A/C takes longer to cool the cabin. A restricted filter can also contribute to unpleasant or musty smells.

Cabin air filter replacement intervals vary between vehicles, so always check the manufacturer's recommendations. As a general guide, inspection around every 15,000 to 20,000 kilometres may be appropriate, particularly if you regularly drive in dusty conditions.

Your air conditioning can provide some useful clues when something isn't working as it should. Look out for:

Air isn't getting cold: Reduced cooling performance may indicate low refrigerant, restricted airflow or an A/C system fault.

Unusual noises: Rattling, squealing or hissing sounds can point to problems with the compressor, belts or refrigerant system.

Musty smells: Persistent odours may be associated with moisture, microbial build-up or a dirty cabin air filter.

Water inside the vehicle: Condensation normally drains outside the vehicle. Water appearing around the footwell can indicate a blocked drain.

Fogging windows: A/C systems help remove moisture from cabin air. Poor dehumidification can make clearing windows more difficult.

Weak airflow: A blocked cabin filter, blower problem or restriction within the ventilation system may be responsible.

If your A/C has gradually become less effective rather than suddenly failing, don't assume that another regas is all it needs. Having the system inspected can help determine the underlying cause.

Your vehicle's air conditioning system is made up of several interconnected components, including the compressor, condenser, evaporator, refrigerant circuit, seals, electrical controls and cabin filter. Regular inspection gives these components an opportunity to be checked before a minor issue develops into a more expensive repair.

A yearly A/C inspection can be particularly worthwhile before summer, when the system is likely to be working harder and for longer periods. It can also help maintain airflow, cabin comfort and system performance.

At Car Service Canberra, our team is Arctick authorised (AU53331) to carry out automotive air conditioning work, including refrigerant handling, in accordance with applicable environmental requirements. We can assess your system and recommend the appropriate service, whether that involves a regas, repair, inspection or cabin air filter replacement.

You shouldn't have to turn your car into an oven just because summer has arrived. If your air conditioning isn't cooling like it used to, smells unusual, makes unfamiliar noises or has developed another problem, it's worth having it checked rather than waiting for a complete failure.

Booking an air conditioning inspection with Car Service Canberra in Mitchell can help identify issues and keep your vehicle's A/C system working efficiently when you need it most.

Stay comfortable, keep the windows clear and let your vehicle do the hard work of keeping you cool this summer.

Is Your Car Air Conditioning Costing You More Fuel?

The onset of cold weather brings various challenges for vehicles, most notably for car batteries, which are essential for starting the engine. Car Service Canberra located in Mitchell, offers comprehensive battery inspection, testing and replacement services. They highlight their dedication to vehicle maintenance through a FREE Battery Test, underlining their commitment to vehicle performance and owner satisfaction.

Navigating the Challenges of Cold Weather on Car Batteries

The functionality of car batteries is rooted in a chemical reaction that creates electrical power. This reaction is significantly hindered by cold temperatures, leading to a decreased battery efficiency. Consequently, the battery's ability to produce the necessary power for engine start-up is compromised, particularly in vehicles that have been stationary for prolonged periods.

The Effect of Cold Temperatures on Car Batteries

Moreover, colder weather thickens engine oil, making the engine more difficult to crank and thereby requiring the battery to work harder to initiate the vehicle start-up. Batteries that are nearing their lifecycle end or are already weakened are particularly susceptible to failure in such conditions, emphasising the need for timely checks and maintenance as winter approaches.

Acknowledging the potential setbacks and dangers associated with battery failure, Car Service Canberra offers a comprehensive Battery Test at no charge, visit our workshop for assistance. This proactive measure is designed to accurately evaluate the battery's condition, identifying any issues before they worsen. Such an approach by Car Service Canberra not only saves customers time and money but also ensures their safety and peace of mind during the colder seasons.

The technical team at Car Service Canberra is highly skilled and uses the latest diagnostic tools to offer informed advice and effective solutions, covering a range of needs from simple charges to full battery replacements. Their thorough approach also includes a check of the charging system and electrical connections to guarantee optimal vehicle functioning.

Modern hybrid and electric vehicles rely on sophisticated high-voltage battery systems to deliver efficiency, performance and range. Like conventional batteries, these systems can gradually lose capacity over time due to age, usage patterns, charging habits and environmental conditions.

Car Service Canberra provides professional hybrid and EV battery testing to assess battery health, charging performance and overall system condition. Advanced diagnostics can identify weak cells, cooling system faults, charging irregularities and warning codes before they lead to more costly repairs.

For hybrid vehicles, declining battery performance may result in poor fuel economy, reduced power assistance or frequent petrol engine operation. In electric vehicles, battery deterioration can contribute to reduced driving range and slower charging performance. Early testing helps detect these concerns before they impact day-to-day driving.

Where replacement is required, Car Service Canberra can advise on suitable battery repair or replacement options based on manufacturer requirements and vehicle specifications. Safety is essential when working with high-voltage systems, which is why trained technicians follow strict procedures and use specialised equipment.

European and Luxury car log book service in Mitchell

Log Book Servicing is a cost saving approach to car maintenance where regular inspections and small fixes keep your vehicle running smoothly and efficiently to prevent small problems turning into major damage and issues which could otherwise be very costly to repair.

Every passenger car (and most commercials vehicles) should be issued with a “Log Book” by the manufacturer, which lays out the specified timing and agenda for your regular log book services. You should keep your log book in your glove box for reference and recording any details, but Car Service Canberra can also refer to our database to get the required information if you've misplaced your book.

The schedule of the service will be a combination of both time or distance.

You may be tempted to delay your next log book service because your car is probably still driveable and it may not have reached BOTH the time and distance measures. While you obviously need to find availability in your budget and schedule, don't delay too long because wear and tear on the car will increase exponentially and could lead to damage which is many times more expensive than the log book service would have been.

Every car is different and the agenda for each service changes according to the schedule, which is why each vehicle is issued with a log book.

Here are some examples of what can be included:
